[EN] Science Seminar #1 2025: Optimal Ordering Policy for a Multi-Item Inventory System with Stock-Dependent Demand and Backorders

On Friday, April 11, 2025, the Faculty of Science of Parahyangan Catholic University held its first Science Seminar as part of its commitment to fostering a dynamic and multidisciplinary academic atmosphere. Held in rooms 10316–10317, third floor of Building 10, the seminar took place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. WIB and was attended by faculty, students, and educational staff from the Faculty of Science.
This seminar featured Prof. Dr. Julius Dharma Lesmono, S.Si., S.E., M.T., M.Sc., an academic with a multidisciplinary background who has long been involved in the field of optimization. In his presentation, entitled “Optimal Ordering Policy for a Multi-Item Inventory System with Stock-Dependent Demand and Backorders,” he presented a mathematical model designed to efficiently manage a multi-item inventory system.
The model specifically takes into account various important aspects of an inventory system, such as item deterioration, stock-dependent demand, and backorder policies (delays in fulfilling orders). The goal of this approach is to determine the optimal inter-order and out-of-stock times, which minimize total inventory costs.

n his presentation, Prof. Dharma also provided case illustrations for three different types of goods. He demonstrated how the optimal ordering policy can be determined through a numerical approach, and followed up with a sensitivity analysis to evaluate the impact of parameter changes on model results.
This seminar provided insight into the application of mathematics in logistics decision-making and inventory management, and opened up opportunities for cross-disciplinary discussions that are highly relevant to real-world challenges in today’s industry and business world.
