Profile

The Faculty of Science (FS) of Parahyangan Catholic University (UNPAR) began as the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) in 1993 and the Faculty of Information Technology and Science (FTIS) in 2008. The establishment of FMIPA was confirmed by the issuance of the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 34/D/O/1993 dated April 20, 1993, which immediately determined the accreditation status of “registered” for two FMIPA study programs, namely the Mathematics and Physics study programs. With the issuance of the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia number: 420/DIKTI/Kep/1996 dated August 8, 1996, the “registered” status was also determined for the Computer Science study program. The change of name of FMIPA to FTIS occurred because of the change of name of the Computer Science study program to the informatics study program. The change of name from FMIPA to FTIS is based on the Decision of the Management of the Parahyangan Catholic University Foundation Number: II/2009 04/05-SK dated April 1, 2009.

On October 1, 2024, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FTIS) changed its name to Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FS). FS serves high school graduates interested in gaining a deep understanding of mathematics, physics, and informatics across various fields. The faculty offers three study programs:

1. Mathematics

This program aims to produce mathematics graduates capable of applying mathematics, particularly in the fields of actuarial science, statistics, and finance. Graduates are expected to meet the global needs of industry and the service sector. Additionally, graduates are equipped with a strong foundation in mathematics and systematic cognitive skills that enable them to continue their studies in mathematics or other branches of science. The UNPAR Undergraduate Mathematics Study Program has successfully achieved “Excellent” accreditation until October 2025 by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). Previously, the UNPAR Undergraduate Mathematics Study Program had earned “A” accreditation since 2005. The Mathematics Study Program offers specializations in Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, Optimization and Dynamics, and Pure Mathematics and Teaching. The curriculum is developed and periodically evaluated, taking into account the interests of various stakeholders. The lecturers in the Mathematics Study Program are highly competent in their respective fields, and are generally alumni of renowned universities both at home and abroad.

2. Physics

This program is directed at mastering the physics of materials and devices, instrumentation and control, computational physics and other applied physics fields so that graduates can obtain a strong scientific and methodological foundation to solve problems both in physics and other fields. The UNPAR Physics Study Program has achieved “Unggul” accreditation confirmed by the Decree of BAN-PT 1600 / SK / BAN-PT / AK-ISK / S / III / 2022. “Unggul” accreditation is the highest ranking in the accreditation levels set by BAN-PT. “Unggul” indicates that the quality and quality of education in the UNPAR Physics Study Program has been recognized. With this, the UNPAR Physics Study Program is the first Physics Study Program from a private university in Indonesia to achieve the predicate “Unggul,” and is on par with eight Physics Study Programs at various state universities. The Undergraduate Physics Program, as part of the Faculty of Science, upholds quality education supported by competent teaching staff and good learning facilities. The UNPAR Physics Study Program has a highly qualified teaching staff. 70% of the lecturers in the Physics Study Program have completed their doctoral studies (doctoral degrees) at reputable universities abroad. The curriculum is equipped with ‘transferable skills’ so that when students graduate from the physics study program, they are equipped not only with ‘knowledge’ but also skills that enable them to adapt quickly to their work environment, as well as have the flexibility to determine their ‘expertise’. UNPAR Physics also has the first theoretical physics study center in Indonesia with studies in accordance with scientific developments at the international level. In addition, the Physics Study Program offers Concentrations in Theoretical and Computational Physics, Concentrations in Applied Physics, Concentrations in Medical Physics, and Concentrations in STEM Learning.

3. Informatics

Since its inception, the Informatics study program has produced a large number of graduates with competencies in the field of Information Technology. Market demand for the competencies of Information Technology professionals is increasing day by day. Today, employers expect graduates to possess specialized skills upon graduation. The UNPAR Informatics study program curriculum prioritizes basic skills to achieve the targeted graduate competency, namely the ability to create software to solve problems. Based on this philosophy, students are provided with sufficient knowledge in computer programming and supporting disciplines to solve problems. By mastering these basic skills, graduates are expected to be able to quickly learn new technologies independently. This approach has proven to quickly secure employment for Informatics graduates, mostly in the Informatics field, with a waiting period of less than three months. The Informatics study program offers three specializations: Data Science, Computing Science, and Artificial Intelligence. The Informatics study program also boasts a qualified teaching staff, graduates of top state universities in Indonesia, as well as those from universities abroad, such as the Netherlands, Germany, and Italy.
