The Dean’s Welcome Remarks

Welcome to the Faculty of Science website, and best wishes to all. The history of the Faculty of Science (FS) began in 1993, driven by Parahyangan Catholic University’s (UNPAR) commitment to contributing to the development of basic sciences in Indonesia. On April 20, 1993, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) was established with two study programs: Mathematics and Physics. Then, on August 8, 1996, the Computer Science Study Program was added to complete the program lineup at FMIPA UNPAR. In April 2009, FMIPA changed its name to the Faculty of Information Technology and Science (FTIS), coinciding with the change of the Computer Science Study Program to the Informatics Engineering Study Program.

As part of UNPAR’s rebranding to keep up with the times, in October 2024, the Faculty of Information Technology and Science (FTIS) officially changed its name to the Faculty of Science (FS), which houses three study programs: Mathematics, Physics, and Informatics.

Currently, the Mathematics Study Program and the Physics Study Program have obtained an Excellent Accreditation rating valid until October 2025, while the Informatics Study Program has a Very Good Accreditation rating valid until August 2025.

The three study programs in the Faculty of Science are supported by highly qualified lecturers who graduated from renowned universities, both at home and abroad. Faculty of Science alumni are equipped not only with strong scientific knowledge but also with soft skills that enable them to become competent professionals with character and outstanding personalities. This is reflected in graduates who have pursued careers in various industrial sectors, companies, and educational and research institutions both at home and abroad.

To ensure the quality and relevance of graduate competencies, the three study programs at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences periodically revise their curricula to reflect developments in science, technology, and the needs of the workplace. Furthermore, the study programs regularly invite practitioners and experts as guest lecturers or speakers, and collaborate with industry, professional associations, and other educational and research institutions. Students can also earn several skills certifications or professional certifications upon completion of specific courses.

The facilities and infrastructure supporting the learning process are continuously updated to keep pace with developments in science and technology. The Faculty of Science is committed to creating a dynamic, innovative academic environment oriented toward scientific development and tangible contributions to society.
